This fall, my graduate school, Upper Iowa University reached out to me about finishing up my Master’s in Education. I started the program while I was working at Saint Mary’s College because the College had a tuition reimbursement program. Once I left Saint Mary’s, I stopped the program, because I didn’t want to pay for the degree (I’m cheap, what can I say). Well, as you can imagine, UIU made me an offer that I could not refuse, so now I am juggling graduate courses until May 2018.
People keep asking me what I will do with this degree, and I have no clue. I ‘m enjoying what I’m learning. My current class we are talking about FERPA, tenure, and freedom of expression and how emerging technology fits into it. I love the discussions I’m having with my professor and peers. But, I still don’t know what I will do with the degree.
I love consulting and don’t see myself getting out of it so that I can work in academia. I could see myself focusing more on educational institutions and marketing my business to schools. I do enjoy teaching, and maybe I’ll occasionally teach at the college level. There are so many options and I haven’t decided on one, and even though I would like to know what I will do with the degree, the beauty of the situation is that I don’t need to know what I will do with it. Currently, I am enjoying learning and expanding my knowledge base, this semester it is all about case law and education.
If you have ideas on what I should do with the degree, let me know, but for now, I am just going to enjoy the learning process.
